I am going to look at this enterprise with great interest.  If there is anything I can do to make this happen, let me know.

my question is how we hand off the good?

Title: Re: Black Market
Post by: Rostin on August 30, 2014, 12:20:06 AM
We will use the old "outpost looting attack" trick to hand-off modules and then, once the value of the module has been verified, I will send QPs your way

Title: Re: Black Market
Post by: Rostin on August 30, 2014, 12:31:58 AM
I currently have one AI core. I am willing to buy another AI core or sell it and some QPs for two of any other module. Since nobody knows what they do yet I will take anything :)

Title: Re: Black Market

You will have to set it up in order for it to work :)

They only cost like, 50k anyway!  :))

I now have one of each of the new Alien modules. I am not interested in selling. Only buying.

If you sell an alien module to me before the next update I will pay you an extra 5 QPs for it :)

*Limited-time offer; only applies to sales made before the module utility is announced*

Sargas... as far as alien ship modules go, no, not until we know what they do, at least. I do have another offer for you, though, that I think is uniquely suited to your interests in mining. It's an alien hybrid mining module, it's one of the large structures that's linked to a specific planet. If you're interested in that, send me a message in-game and I can give you the details. I personally think it would make a fantastic set-up for a refueling station, and I know that's kind of your thing...   hi

What do you guys think each alien module will do? Best guesses? :)

Title: Re: Black Market
Post by: FreezeLove on September 05, 2014, 09:37:06 AM
Im not sure your guess is as good as mine. However I would love to know what happened to these aliens, seeing as they have Dark-Matter technology meaning they were a type 3 civilization. Who or what took down that many ships of such a advanced race would be my question?
Hope SirEmi fills in the story alittle. :21:

Title: Re: Black Market
Post by: Irredrache on September 05, 2014, 04:50:26 PM
Rostin, I'm still not convinced these modules will all stand alone. But here are my guesses:

Death Rays: Yeah, this one's pretty clear, I think. (The death ray is for mining minerals, right?)

Zero Point: This may be a long shot, but I really hope this enhances ship aim, somehow.

AI Core: My best guess with this one is that it enhances some of the alien modules, somehow?

Dark Matter: Could be a fuel cell substitute? Like a renewable energy source? Or a stealth module, for hiding your ships from other captains? That would be pretty sweet  :wow:

I also feel like, for balance, one of these ought to be a defensive module. Maybe zero point or dark matter somehow absorb damage in a way different from shields and armor?

Title: Re: Black Market
Post by: sargas on September 05, 2014, 05:37:26 PM
No, I'm pretty sure the 'death-ray' is for vermin (pest control).

No, I don't think so at this time, I have a couple of my own and am not that interested in them (other than the fact that they can mine both mineral and gas)...

Title: Re: Black Market
Post by: Irredrache on September 06, 2014, 12:53:26 AM
No worries, sargas. Lisunken if you're interested, it's an offer available to anyone. It IS static (and takes a LOT of personnel), but it works fast and holds up to 5,000 m3 of whatever you're mining.

Title: Re: Black Market
Post by: Rostin on September 08, 2014, 04:37:18 PM
These death-rays make really great $5,000,000 paperweights...  :)

Title: Re: Black Market
Post by: JamJulLison on September 09, 2014, 10:53:18 AM
Death Rays: Probably either for killing things or performing laser eye surgery. Possibly both. lol. Question is are these actually any better then what many of us can already make?

Zero Point: This is likely some sort of intergalactic traveling device.

AI Core: It is the computer core for an artificial intelligence. This one is clearly a no brainer.

Dark Matter: Likely something used in fuel. But the thing is why haven't we found it on alien ships? We find regular fuel, but no dark matter.

Title: Re: Black Market
Post by: sargas on September 09, 2014, 11:41:28 AM
the death rays penetrate shields and armor and directly kill personnel.

Somehow I doubt that.  Otherwise what race could have wiped them out? Well besides themselves.  Hmmm though there is a thought. Maybe the aliens had a civil war and wiped themselves out.

Title: Re: Black Market
Post by: JoolzVern on September 11, 2014, 12:17:40 AM
Well considering that it's supposed to be somewhat realistic...

Death Rays: Probably directly attacks personnel on planets without having to wait until the 3rd 'wave' attacks 'protected' forces.

Zero Point: Obviously this would create fuel or something, seeing as a "zero-point module" is just another term for any device that produces theoretically infinite amounts of energy from the movement of quantum particles(which move even at absolute zero where no movement/energy should be present in classical physics).

AI Core: I think this may be a programmable mission gathering/completing function where with auto-jump we can have a SOS ship accept only survivors etc. and come back at a pre-determined time or when cargo space hits a pre-programmed level.

Dark Matter: No idea unless maybe it helps you open a black hole or something.

Title: Re: Black Market
Post by: JamJulLison on September 11, 2014, 01:56:34 AM
On the death rays it can be anything from like you said to some sort of small laser.  Death Ray in sci-fi and even even in real life, is sometimes used for any sort of laser advice. I seem to recall in an episode of one of the star treks, in one of the time travel one and not even sure the series, a phaser got referred to as a death ray once. lol

Title: Re: Black Market
Post by: JoolzVern on September 11, 2014, 04:12:51 PM
Yes, it could just be a high-powered super laser. The "free electron lasers" they're experimenting on, mounted to (nuclear-powered)battleships would definitely qualify as a death ray. They can be 'tuned' to any frequency from infra-red, visible light, microwaves etc.

Also it occurs to me that the AI modules may even serve for data collection or analysis or something like that. Perhaps sharing battle/system data among players in a corp.

Title: Re: Black Market

Anyone who gets these would be a fool to trade or sell them.  What they make is just far too useful. At least on terms of taking on smaller targets.

The fact the stuff has been described as ancient.  Even in games for the old structures.  Also if they weren't extinct then we would already have respawning crashed ships at least because they crashed some more ships.

Can we fight these aliens, pretty please? IMG bores me coz I've surpassed them a long time ago, and there isn't anyone interesting to fight. Maybe I should just waste another 12 billion RPs on railguns even though no one uses armor? :sleep1:

Upon study of the Alien artefact modules discovered, the SOL corporation has discovered how to combine the modules in order to repair the Damaged Alien Death-Ray module.
The new module "Alien Death-Ray" is very special indeed. After preliminary testing, it seems that this new weapon can bypass any shields and armor!
Name: Alien Death-Ray
Description: Weapon used by alien ships to destroy organic life. It emanates a concentrated Gamma ray radiation, deadly to living beings. +5000 Attack power at MK I, negates shields / armor completely.
Utility: +5000 attack weaponry, bypasses shields & armor
The module can be acquired via exploration of derelict artefacts in the new star cluster, in "Damaged" form and then combined via the "Mark Upgrade" with components to create a working module, using Reverse Engineer tech.
The SOL Corporation spokesman stated:
"The new module is highly effective against Pirate ships. At last we might be able to provide our captains with a means to get rid to the Pirate menace."
(sic)

the death rays penetrate shields and armor and directly kill personnel.

I told y'all this 10 days before it became official (oh,ye of little faith)...

Yeah but Sargas posted it here first lol. But to be technical he was right and I was wrong- death rays just bypass shields/armor I think.

I thought that it would not only do that but also kill personnel on planets in the 1st wave of attacks.
