Title: Ship Power
Post by: sinaarrgghh on August 28, 2013, 07:17:14 AM
Something wrong here which I've only just noticed.

Ship abilities:    Tactical adv: +0.00025 AU/s, +85% Weapons, +85% Shield, +85% Armor

Weapons    Shield    Armor    Manpower    Combat speed    Dodge    Interplanetary    Interstellar    Cargo bay
4449481    3330000    124875    1025125    159.93 km/s    0%            0.0253 AU/s    0.003 LY/s    72000 m3

Total power: 5,271,997 (W+S+A/2+M+50*Cs)

The power is'nt taking into account the tactical advantages. With those it would 8875060. If they don't affect the power whats the point of them?

Am I missing something?

The total power already includes the tactical advantage.

But only the tactical advantage you gained from research (+60%) is applied though, not the one from the combat tactician (i.e., whether you have the officer or not, it doesn't affect your ship's total power and is only evident during combat).

From what I have figure out the displayed total power is your "timer power". What effects the timers and such. The listed shields/weapons/etc take into account your bonuses so the "Total Power" listed will always drive you crazy...no math will make it make sense.

@Sin: Like I said, the figures already include the tactical advantage.

And actually, the math is pretty simple.

Consider your shield: it's at 3,330,000. As this already includes the +60% tactical advantage from your research, your base shield value is 2,081,250.

If you add up the values of every single shield module in your ship, the sum should equal 2,081,250.

Yes I know that, the value of my sheilds is 1,800,000 exactly. I'm talking about the total power, it's based on the unmodified values. Therefore the advantages exist only on that screen and don't have any effect on the total power, which is the important bit.

Based on my observation when i researched combat tactics, every single level affected the total power (up until +60%). But when i hired the combat tactician (+25%), total power didn't change at all.

Perhaps it's a bug on my end? LOL

Maybe SirEmi can clear things up. :)

From your officer it should show up in there.  Here is what it should look like.

+85% Weapons, +85% Shield, +85% Armor

That is with the officers and max combat tactics.  If it shows up where it says Tactical adv then it is applied.

I exchanged messages with SirEmi once (about a month ago), and he mentioned that the combat tactician doesn't affect the power rating.

Hope he replies to this thread to make it official.  :)

i look at it simply. The total power of your vessel rating when you click on modules gives an indication of what your totals are at base value. That figure is what is reported to others as your power, and is used as a baseline to any npc mission pickup strengths as well as odds of completing missions, based on that base line.
The REAL numbers are what you see in the boxes above the total power, based on your modifications, tactical sciences and officers and its what you actually hit your opponent with.
so in reality if my odds of winning are 3:35 in favour of the bad guy, you would expect i would lose. However, with all my bonuses and combats, i actually win the day and fly away with the prize.
For eg, if i have a reported power of 1,000,000 vessel total yet my bonuses for that ship equate +85% all round on shields and weapons, then my real power is 1,850,000. factor in a dodge percentage gives you more numbers. (45% dodge, chance to hit 55%.....multiply 1.850.000 x 55/100 gives you an even bigger power base, in theory)
