Edit- Was Capt. Clavin attacked before or after you dissolved one of the longest running alliances in the game?

Never mind. I figgered it out

1. Attack FEB 2
2. Alliance Dissolved FEB 4
3. Purge Announcement FEB 4 (posted 5 minutes after #2)

The fee was assessed for your attack on an ally!

The simplest answer would be that I no longer see our alliance as beneficial.

If you were not an ally, I would have declared war and attacked all your corp's assets right away -- that would've been fun and would've put my 10 billion war fund into use.
I would have not gone so far if you didn't "fine" me. Who the hell fines TOAA? lol

Have you guys completed removing your assets from Sol?

Seriously though, it's sad but your comment reveals your ignorance in AG's long history.  :)

War isn't profitable. Raph has managed to fend off alliances bigger than his own total power before, and even though I'm confident in SPQNR's military capabilities, peace is almost always preferable to war. Both EOS and SSS are valued allies of New Rome, so you can pretty much forget about the rest of the top-20 ganging up on individual parts of it.

I would make an exception for JJL, but he ain't top-20 material anymore :P

Oh please. Take your time and try to reach above just plain 'simple' and tell me what the bloody 'ell is the real reason!
