Title: Frequently Asked Questions
Post by: SirEmi on September 02, 2011, 12:16:25 PM
Q: What is the first thing to do when starting out?
A: You start with a small ship with an interplanetary drive and a few cargo bay modules. Dock with the orbital "SOL Commodity Exchange" and click "Bulletin board". Transport a few settlers within the Sol system and try and reach 15,000 solars finances.

Q: I need fuel cells to travel. Where do I get those?
A: All travel requires Fuel Cells. You can buy Fuel Cells from the "SOL Commodity Exchange" station or you can Convert minerals and gas into fuel cells.

Q: Ok, I have 15,000 solars, what now?
A: Dock with "SOL Ship Maintenance" facility in the orbit of Earth, sell one cargo bay module and fit a "Wormhole Generator Mk I" instead. Then dock with the "SOL Commodity Exchange" and try to take an Interstellar mission contract. Make sure you get Fuel Cells to cover the return trip, or else you'll have to issue a distress signal and buy fuel at a higher price.

Q: Why is it taking so long for the ship to reach my destination?
A: Astro Galaxy is a realistic space exploration game. Ship travel time is in real time, however you can install additional engines that will reduce the travel time but you will consume more fuel.

Q: How do I get Research Points?
A: You have to purchase Science Lab modules and hire personnel for it. You can get as many as you can afford, the labs can be deployed on ships, rocky planets, stations. You will receive RP each hour from your science labs, that you can then invest into new technology.

Q: I have researched a new level of technology, what can I do with it now?
A: You can now Mark Upgrade modules to your latest tech level, or you can build new modules up to your tech level. Ships have manufacturing bays that can be used to build / upgrade new modules. A ship size determines the number of manufacturing bays. You will need minerals and gases to manufacture / upgrade and it takes some time.

Why do I get nothing rewarded for winning a battle?

Why do I get nothing rewarded for winning a battle?

I'm still working on the rewards and the battle system... it takes the wrecks from the battle and the winner will get loot as minerals / gases scattered from the battlefield.

awwww poor borg gets nothing good. Lets learn all about the game first before you start with you attacking.

I already learned the game quite well :) I've killed off about 5 people until I realized I was just losing personnel and not gaining anything out of it.

Another Questing Emi.

Is there any way to set what your mining facilities mine, or is it random and/or based upon where on the planet/moon your station is?

You can set the mining yourself, when you drop the module on the surface a random resource is selected but after just click "Surface" then "Command" on each module and select what you want to mine. Some resources are more valuable then others and will bring more cash / hour. You can see the rarity by the price tag of each resource from the SOL Commodity Exchange. Mining diamonds or uranium or the rare gases like Radon / Xeon would be the most valuable activity. Also the depth of the resource for minerals, height for gases affects the mining time a bit.

For best results, research the MK and try and upgrade your mining modules...

Also, don't forget you need to unload the module when it reaches the maximum capacity of 100 m3, that's where a station comes in handy as it can unload the resource straight to it's cargo bay...

Oh thanks. Also I have been stealing from my mines while I'm out in the galaxy. But I didn't know you could change what you're mining. that's very helpful.

Planetary modules.

Are you unable to put planetary modules on gasious planets? because I was trying to make Jupiter inter my own personal Research lab filled planet.

There is no surface to land on gas planets. You can only put atmospheric harvesting modules on it atm. Part of the realistic environments.

Also, on asteroid belts you can only put mining facility modules due to the rough environment.

Yes Venus is a SEA protectorate, there's a warning about that, but it's ok you get solars for it like it would be if you sold it.

You don't need to wait for the module to produce a cubic meter, just deploy it, issue a switch mining command, and then scoop it back up for that SEA step.

If you don't want to travel back to Earth, you can call a salvage ship by clicking Bridge->Navigation and in the lower area click on "Salvage ship" where it says "Distress signals". It costs a bit more to install the mining facility though.

If nothing else, you can always restart the game and SEA course if you think it's too big of a mistake.
Once you graduate the SEA to full captain rank, you won't be able to start again.

What happens if I have more than 3 ship or station and my VIP end.

What happens if I have more than 3 ship or station and my VIP end.

Nothing happens, you don't lose anything but you might only be able to activate the first 3 ships or command the first 3 stations, unitl VIP is active again.

At what level do each of the Techs max out?
-- I know the Def/Off Tactics max is 5, but was
wondering about the rest.

Title: Re: Frequently Asked Questions
Post by: GoodPerson on January 05, 2013, 09:00:43 AM
only combat tactics that have limit

The other tech is limitless

oh, wise one,

you have discovered limits...

please, enlighten us...

With the exception of the tactics, we are only limited by our
own precepts and conceptions of our limitations.   :14:

Seriously, for the post, many thanks!

How does one dismiss / quit a mission?  I'm sure this is one of those ultra simple things that I'm overlooking.  Thx in advance.

Return to earth with the pods and or COM crew. Same with interplanetary. Otherwise you have to pay out a large amount of solars to dismiss them.  Especially if your far out.

Ok one more question...

Does VIP and officer usage stack? For example VIP grants you -33% nav calc and nav officer also provides -33% if you used both would that be combined for -66%?

Title: Re: Frequently Asked Questions
Post by: sargas on July 03, 2013, 05:30:20 PM
yes, they do in the same way your tactical adds with the proper officer.

Title: Re: Frequently Asked Questions
Post by: JamJulLison on July 04, 2013, 12:51:10 AM
Something else that is nice is when you can start bringing in good amounts of solars, you can use solars to get QP instead of real money. This is how a lot of people in our Corp get VIP and officers. It is nice to play a game where you don't have to pay real money to get those advantages.

Is it really true there is a thin line between genius and insanity?
Or is it true that the thin line between genius and insanity is only in the mind of the insane? 0o

To me there is no line.  Smart people can be just as insane as dumb people. lol

Title: Re: Frequently Asked Questions
Post by: sargas on July 23, 2013, 12:13:59 AM
it's really a matter of perceived views (and, of course, the interpretation of the circumstances by common beings)

How is VIP status achieved?

Title: Re: Frequently Asked Questions
Post by: JamJulLison on July 26, 2013, 01:41:08 AM
Option A: Spent real life money on QP so you can use it to get VIP.

Option B: Work your butt off for around 5 mill solars, convert it to QP and then use it to get VIP.

Option C: For people in our alliance we actually will send them the QP they need for the first month of VIP.

Is it an oversight that Stations/Star Bases(which appear to be just big stations) cannot manufacture?

"Captain, cargo bays twenty through twenty-eight got blown out during that recent solar flair up. What are we gonna do," asked the Ensign, fresh out of the academy, in a mild state of panic.

A) The captain sighed, said "we are going to have to wait for that old, dinky frigate in sector two to come and make us a few. It could be days, or even weeks."

B) The captain scowled darkly at the boot-rookie. "What part of star base don't you understand? We are going to order our engineers to replace them, you idiot," he grumbled.

If I understand correctly you can repair armor on a station...

why not have manufacturing bays?  I asked for this months ago...

I believe you. I am tied up trying to upgrade technology, find a good location for a fueling station in the second ring and recruit a second member to the SBE, anyway. I can be patient.

Title: Re: Frequently Asked Questions
Post by: sargas on July 30, 2013, 01:19:23 AM
Do you need me to set up a Sargas fueling station for you?  If so, please let me know where by PM (for the obvious security reasons)...

All I need is a good gas giant with some good material to harvest, and the station becomes self-sufficient...

And if my perceived reputation makes you uncomfortable, ask anyone about my honor, even [IMG], for my word is my bond...

(edit because - well, you should know the main reason by now...sigh...)

Title: Re: Frequently Asked Questions
Post by: Dadds on July 30, 2013, 02:18:31 PM
well i can say that Sargas definitely hasnt attacked any of [IMG] stations and such. Mind you, i never told him where any of them were ;) Sometimes i am not too sure to go dangling bait in front of the critters, unless you are ready for the bite hehe
Sargas, in his defence, does seem to want to get a refuelling business solid and working. Trouble is, there is just so much space out there, and very few customers.

A good idea a bit ahead of its time, but its coming

how can i find a wormhole to fly to and then jump through?

Title: Re: Frequently Asked Questions
Post by: Fenix on January 06, 2015, 03:05:43 PM
Wormholes are "Unknown" events that you will occasionally see on the navigation screen, where they go however is something you can't know until you go through them. Once you get to it via the navigation screen go to system and make your way to the event horizon.

Hi all; I'm new to the game over the past week. I'll be asking a few Noob questions :-) I hope this is the right thread. Here's the first:

In most systems surrounding Sol, there is one Sol Com station, selling limited amounts of fuel. I haven't found any stations *buying* commodities (other than a couple for electronics, etc.).

So if I mine Gold 25LY away ... do I always have to return to *Earth* to sell it, or are the stations out there I haven't seen yet? Thanks in advance -

Jim

Welcome to the game Jim :)

There are only 7 SOL stations outside SOL in 7 closest star systems. You can trade commodities there. Resources can be sold only in Earth's orbit. Buying electronics in Earth and selling these to outter SOL stations is a good way to start :)

I should also mention that these stations can be looted and destroyed for additional profit ;)
If You're interrested in blasting them, consider joining the Syndicate so You will get some advanced weapons  :12:

Do nuke modules get destroy if you use them? The description for the science entry says the nuke gets used up, so can be used only once. I interpret that to mean hte nuke module is destroyed. So if you build a $2,000,000 nuke module and use it, it's gone?

Good morning.
I have begun exploring the sectors out beyond 3 quadrants from Sol.  The star maps for quadrants 4 and out all appear to be blank.  Do I need some form of technology to scan a quadrant to find the star systems in that quadrant?  Or is that simply the empty space between galaxies and there are solar systems out beyond?

You are right.. there is some big wormholes leading to Alien Cluster..

there are star systems from Q(0,0) to 4 quadrants away, 5th quadrants and farther away are mostly empty but still there are some pockets where stars exists, they are the hardest to find and basically useless to discover.
The 5th quadrants (5th ring) has wormholes leading to another cluster called Alien Remnant Cluster. locations of these wormholes often changes over time.
