My first piece of advice is Finish the Academy. You are probably going to get a lot of recruitment offers, just be careful what you decide. Most of the top corporations would be happy to have you (and will be able to help you).

You go to Comms->Corp->Top Corps, click on Join Request immediately to the left of "SSS (S.S. Syndicate)". Can't miss it, it's the top corp and the place to be.  :19:

Status Update:

Growth is slow in the beginning... I am biding my time doing taxi missions to GJ 674 while I am researching better cargo bays so that I may do SOS missions. Power will remain stagnant for a while as weapons and shields are low on my 'to-do' list at the moment.

These interstellar travel times are absurd. I am not surprised at how many new players quit the game with how long it takes to go between stars.

yes travel time is a major problem for the new player. As you move up fighting time can get worst.
 

Another Status Update:

The plight of the newbie is a difficult one indeed. Waiting 7 hours to deliver some colonists to a distant star while trying to get enough money and RPs to build decent engines AND cargo bays is a dull life indeed.

Yes this is why many recommend you join an established corp, build yourself up, then form your own later.

For example, I have mk100+ WHGs etc. that, along with similarly large cargo/diamonds that can get my ships across the map in under an hour rather than 7. Raph probably can do so in seconds lol.

It's very, very slow to get over that 'hump' without the advantage of such corporate resources. But even then, if you can get players to join you and they stay active you could share research/manufacturing capabilities etc. and do just fine with some teamwork.   :19:

Still it will take time though. I've been playing for about a year now, won the lottery my first month, and was given leadership of the corp early this year. It's taken us this long to get where we are.

that is so true. At NHC we been losing play and leadership. It hard getting long term player to join and stay.
