Title: Star formation
Post by: CaptainJones on February 11, 2016, 03:07:10 AM
Are all stars outside of the first ring eventually (within a month or 2) going to supernova? Are new stars forming  here? I can't really build a fueling station in past the 1st ring, unless I have a ship nearby to pull up the stakes quickly enough, I suppose--if i want that station to survive (they are expensive...)?

or you invest in Solar Hydrogen Infuser (SHI) to stabilize the system..

...insert shameless plug here...

The Empire has ships available to stabilize a system for a fee.

Emperor, might I enquire what fee is attached to this service? The first ring is getting a little too crowded for my liking, but picking up random 2-3 week missions outside of it is a risky business with the current (rather insane, I might add) star lifespan. If a third-party stabilisation fee fits into my business model, I would lean towards moving my operations further out.

what would you offer for such service?

1QP per  day?
4QP for stabilization?
percentage of profit?
slot(s) on planet available for me?

The Empire is still trying to decide an honest and equitable fee for all.

In my case, it'll mostly be a COM saving operation. A percentage of the mission reward would work for me, but it would be difficult to prove what the reward is. I'm sure we could work out the average expected payout (and take a % from that) on the basis of total enemy ship power though.

An alternative would be to base the fee on how far gone a star is, and given that both EOS and SPQNR have figured out the stability system, we could agree a price on the number of days bought with the stabiliser action. Perhaps with a bonus fee for stars that have actually started a nova countdown.

*tongue in cheek*
Or, a 338 QP fixed fee lifetime subscription?

Do you realize that we are establishing the infrastructure for a player-based economy?

1. We are honest, right?
2. My average nest brings ~1 million solari (plus material), my hijackings bring in ~20 million.
3. The Empire can stop a nova from happening within 4 days (usually less).

Perhaps a fee of 4 or 5 QP to bring the stability below 500 (cancelling the upcoming nova) and another QP per day after for mining operations and a flat 10% fee for COMS.

the size of star depends on how fast it goes nova.
Giant stars go nova fastest, on aveage about 2 months
bianary stars are second fastet
colored stars are next
dwarf stars last the longest (6+ months)

so for your refueling station, pick the dwarf star that is the most stable (closest to zero.) You will still need to move it a couple of times a year, but you will be notified by PM and have a week to complete the move.
