At the moment the missions aren't worth it because there's not enough certain/quick reward.
What if the prospectors jumped on your ship for free, and promised you a bounty it you get them to the deposit?
So there's a 100,000,000 deposit out there, and they promise to pay 5% of the deposit (for example) up front when you get there. Then if you want to, you can stake your claim to the deposit as well.
This would allow the rookie captains the boost that matamure was referring to, and would give more established captains a reason to do these missions, since there's reward even without mining the deposit. Both would help fill up the universe with resources so that mining becomes more feasible/widespread.

It seems like Sir Emi wanted these to prototype the search based missions. I'm looking forward to scientists saying they've found artifacts from an advanced alien civilisation, or scientists searching for wormholes. also maybe a geologist who's found a small cache of a mineral that's worth 10,000 per metre.
It should be interesting if we get some different missions that follow this scaffold. Although even this mission gives people an incentive to take their ships out of the safe zones, and a reason to buy stations; which is surely a good thing.

Hey Emi, was just wondering about the frequency of the mining missions at the moment. A few people have commented on not finding them very often, and I haven't spotted one yet (although I probably haven't hit as many signals as others) What's the frequency they should be operating at, and is it set in stone as of now, or do you think you'll keep altering it? Thanks, and I look forward to finding that ever elusive diamond planet

Hey there! As others have said, feel free to ask if you have any questions. and I wouldn't worry about alienating anyone. A few of the older players seem to have built some fairly formidable grudges, but as long as you don't go out of your way to be rude I think everyone pretty much gets along Good luck, and safe flying out there!

Without giving too much away, the move takes a vein similar to Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, and BladeRunner/do androids dream of electric sheep. Namely it suggests (although open ended) that it is we humans that determine how the potential of AI will influence the world. I guess one of the interesting questions that the movie (and the wider genre) brings up is; if you found a functioning AI that had the potential to one day become dangerous, would you feel obliged to destroy it to protect yourself, obliged not to destroy it because it was sentient, or that there was no obligation either way? And is there any difference between destroying and AI compared to a human? I also thought it was just really good at putting a message across as a movie. It was quite original, not a sequel or port from a book or comic (that I'm aware) and it didn't beat you over the head with its message until you cringed. Totally worth watching if you've got a few hours

Just caught transcendence at the movies last night. Thought it was really quite impressive, an original movie that tried to bring a message across without seeming heavy handed in its presentation. I also thought that the topics of artificial intelligence and technology were reasonably relevant to this game Has anyone else seen it? thoughts or comments? And hopefully needless to say, thar be spoilers up in them thar hills!

This seems like a natural progression for the hangar bays. I'm not sure I'd personally prioritise it over some of the other projects, but I think it should definitely be brought in down the road

That sounds like a good strategy, and you're right, I definitely plan on increasing the com timers on my ship I guess its similar to the point I made in messaging. Not at all necessary for the game to function, but just a little think that'd make our days a bit nicer

I agree It's definitely not something I think anyone would put QP up for, but it's the kind of polish that just makes the game a bit more enjoyable. Just thought I'd bring it up

Another small thing I was considering today I had a COM ship running an attack, and had its WHG running in the background so that when I finished the attack, I'd be ready to jump. The WHG got ready before the attack, and I almost jumped away mid timer! Would it be possible to get any attacks we've got runnning, in the sitrep section? I imagine with 20-40 ships, keeping track of who's attacking, and who's just finished an attack, would be quite difficult. Again, this isn't too important, but if it's not a big deal, it'd be a nice little thing. Or maybe people with more ships disagree, and its not really a problem. How about it?

I've been struggling a little bit with the way messaging is structured I was wondering if it would be possible to set up a sent and received box, a bit more like most email accounts Otherwise, you could structure it more like the forum here, where you have message threads either way, it's just a bit cumbersome to have to go back and forth through different messages to try and remember who said what, and whether you actually sent out that message a couple of day ago and someone hasn't responded, or whether you didn't send it in the first place. Obviously this is less important than some of the more content based updates, but I figure (with no programming experience) it's probably a smaller thing that would make a difference. what does everyone think?
