I've also had this happen to me twice in the last year.  Lasts 1-2 weeks, and then goes away.

Perhaps the image gets regenerated when a star is born or dies in the quadrant?

I had the same thing happen, except, it showed the list of SOS-Distress and SOS-Combat missions also.  Since I was doing SOS missions I clicked on those links and set a course - which worked fine.
