This will enable star maps to be automatically updated as your ships travel and discover stars. The uncharted section gets replaced by stars your ships found. If a star dies you will still see it in your star map, until you get close to it to scan it again with the nav computer and see that it's actually no longer there.

New stars will also not show, until you can get the nav computer to scan that area.

Clicking the star in the map will show the system scan, provided the ship entered the system.

Also, there will be a quadrant navigation grid updated with info from the nav computer, to make it easier to manage the nav computer waypoints and see where your ship actually is in space. You will be able to track your ship location more easily and plot new destinations.

Tactical view:
Your colonies / planetary outposts / stations and ships will show up highlighted so you can asses your territory and expansion.
