Hello. I noticed that the ship hull upgrade cost is the same as buying. In my opinion, it kinda defeats the purpose of upgrades. My suggestion is to make the hull upgrade cost independent from buying cost, unless your buying a ship, then the price be normal as it is. Also, why having the price the same? You might as well buy a new ship instead of upgrading cause the price is the same, and sell the old ship once module transfered to new ship. Let's say you have a shuttle, it cost 46,000 and you want to upgrade it to frigate which cost 104,000, then that's, if I did math right, it'll cost 68,000 for the upgrade from shuttle to frigate, sounds better than paying full "brand new" price of 104,000. Having the hull upgrade price the same as buy price, but...eh...com'on...that seriously don't sound right, it's like buying a used vehicle on brand new lot. Well, back to playing, see you soon.

It isn't the same as buying a new car. Your retrofitting your entire hull to upgrade the ship to a new size. I think the pricing is fine as it is.  It allows people to upgrade ship sizes in stages if they need to.  Especially newer players.  I did it myself back when I was newer.  There was no way I could go straight to titan back then.

Actually how it works is your old hull is valued at 75% of the purchase price.

So having a Frigate worth 104k solars, when upgrading to HeavyFrigate, the old hull will be worth 78k (75%) and then the new hull is worth 188.5k, so you have to pay 188.5k - 78k = 110.5k

Works same as selling a used car at 75% price of new one and buying a new one of diff model I guess.

For ship optimizations, we've been working on an even better system, that allows you to upgrade a ship in marks / tiers like this:

Ship optimization Mark I to X:

Mark    Cost
I           10%
II          20% (removes previous Mk at 50% cost)
III         30% (removes previous Mk at 55% cost)
IV         40% (removes previous Mk at 60% cost)
V          50% (removes previous Mk at 65% cost)
VI         60% (removes previous Mk at 70% cost)
VII        70% (removes previous Mk at 75% cost)
VIII       80% (removes previous Mk at 80% cost)
IX         90% (removes previous Mk at 85% cost)
X          100% (removes previous Mk at 90% cost)

So if the optimization costs 10 mil, then you pay 1 mil for Mark I.
Then you want to upgrade to Mark II you pay 2 mil - 500k = 1.5mil

So basically you can upgrade in steps, but it costs a bit more.
Works out better for all.

I wish we could just make ships and sell them to other players.

The used ships go into the recycle bin at the moment, to construct new ship hulls 1

You will be able to sell fully equipped ships at SOL auction when it's available. The buyers will be able to see the ship modules and even the cargo bay. It will be like the ship auctions that where going on in England with sailing ships in the 1600's
