The other day, I moved my mining operation to 4,0. To VEU 16448 to be precise. This in order to see if I could extract 41K m3 of silicon from a 4 slot moon with 2.5 days to go till nova. The star was -970-something.

It was only a $6M deposit and I went there for the heck of trying to grab what I could before it blew. It was meant to die in about 12 hrs and was on a 1d xh countdown before the most recent stability update. And that's where something odd happened: the nova was stopped. It gained almost exactly 500 stability points. But I don't carry stabilisers with me, and it's a backwater star with almost exclusively crap 1 and 4 moon slots. Just 1 gas giant and a minot astroid belt. I did check if there were others in the system, but not a living soul in sight. It makes zero sense to me. No one would waste a 500 pts stabiliser on a nothing system without having something to fight or mine for. And it happened in 1 update, 100%.

I'm starting to think there may be something that stabilises a system once a new mining mission pointing towards it is spawned (before anyone picks it up I mean). Would be most interesting to find out if there is another mining job at that star right now!

I see it now, but it definitely wasn't there yesterday.

It would make sense if he sent it over on auto-pilot, and it arrived in the safezone, since stabilisation works from there as well.
