As the name suggests, we want to make the missions not grind but exploration just how a real space expedition would be.

In development, we have several scenarios for this:

Worm Holes

Description:
As you travel into deep space, you may encounter these anomalies. A wormhole ties too points in space regardless of distance, a ship going trough a wormhole will end up in another part of space entirely. Could be used as shortcuts for exploration.

Inside:
Each wormhole is unique. Upon entering the wormhole, your ship is presented inside it, just like you see a solar system now. But inside, you see on the left the two exits, one witch you used to enter, the other going into a different part of space. Inside the wormhole, different dangers and treasure may lurk. Derelict spaceships, automated drones, etc. etc. If you dare investigate, it may be worth a lot, gathering alien artefacts and selling for a lot of solars, unique module, unique weapons... who knows what you'll find?

Life and death:
A wormhole will dissipate in time.

Black Holes

Description:
We all have our monsters. And so space has it's black holes. A black hole is a hole in the fabric of space itself, where matter has fallen in and gravity has gone wild. Nothing can escape the event horizon of a black hole, not even light itself.

You can never go inside the black hole, but you can explore it's vicinity. Time is moving slower as you approach the black hole, so ships will move slower near the monster. The bigger the black hole, the slower the ships will move. Going near a black hole may have it's rewards though, you may find pieces of the past, frozen in time, treasure beyond belief or you may find doom.

Near the event horizon of a black hole, the ship can explore it's vicinity, finding mysterious things.

Life and death:
Depending on the size, exploding stars may leave a black hole behind.
A black hole will dissipate in time.

Sounds nice. I hope these are added in soon. Though the blackhole's might make people wanna rethink making a star go nova.  They could either create a new solar system or create a blackhole.  Of course realistically a supernova would also have an impact on nearby solar systems as well. It can wipe out life in other solar systems. Not just the one it occurs in.  The energy wave released when a star goes nova is really powerful.

The one system I would like to Nova unfortunately is impossible to do so. That is Sol. lol.

Almost supernatural since you wanting to do it based on resources in a system and if we stop being able to buy resources then it won't be long before Every planet in Sol besides Venus is bled of it's resources by newbies.

Poems will be written and songs will be sung about the 'Mining Wars of Sol'...

Uploaded some pictures of black hole and wormholes.

Black holes will be left behind by exploding supernova, and will contain remnants of planet cores etc. Sometimes a wormhole will also open near a black hole as an additional event.

Wormholes will jump in/out of existence and have a life of their own. Black holes same, will dissipate or go into darkness after a while, and are only visible is there is matter around to light them up, like after a supernova explosion...

Wormholes may lead to known space, or may lead to unknown space, where brave explorers will be able to find remnants of an ancient alien civilization. Black holes in unknown space may also contain remnants of the aliens, derelict ships, stations, outposts, etc.

If a black hole forms from a supernova and then goes out after time, how will anyone know it was there in the first place? Will there be a general alert broadcast by SOL scientists to let us know a sun is about to go nova in a particular quadrant, or will it just be a matter of, if you are in the local vicinity when one goes off, you become aware of it, bringing to mind the musing, "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to see it, does it make any sound". Or perhaps you will bring to us a better mapping system which includes being able to view areas that we have explored individually to spot the anomaly as it happens. (I know, not an easy task). Naturally IMG are predominately scientists, miners and explorers so we are already logging known systems for potential supernova events. Are we led to believe only those stellar bodies with enough mass will go nova while the smaller massed objects will just fade to a white dwarf?
If so we need to start gathering info on the type of stellar masses that are out there, from supergiants to brown dwarfs. It would be nice therefore if we could have some sort of mouse-over popup telling us the type of star is in the system

The black holes will be formed by the bigger stars or the binary stars. A probability chart will be used, and sometimes the black hole will be accompanied by a wormhole. An imminent supernova explosion will be big news, and shown in AG news, together with some info like Quadrant number and star name, if it's big star that going into supernova.

For small star like dwarfs etc, there won't be any announcement until after the fact, when scientists will notice the star just faded away.

If you're in local system of that star, you will get plenty of warnings from the ship computer, including alerts to evacuate the star before it goes supernova or fades away. If the star is about to die, the deployed structures / stations need to be evacuated, to prevent losing them.

When a star fades away or goes supernova, another star will be born shortly after, in the same or a different quadrant.

Wormholes near a black hole are particularly stable and go farther away then wormhole anomalies between stars.

That case I think PMI's mining division needs to set up stuff everywhere so that when these occur we have an idea where they happen.  Though when this is added in I think we can expect most of unknown space to go up in explosions. Man a violent time for the galaxy. lol

IMG have been the forerunners to this type of event and have been researching it for a long time. Our scientists and mining fleet stand ready to assist in the quick identifying and exploring of this new phenomenon. We may even extend our treaties to include a global sharing between our allies of LL our unstable stellar location data. We are logging all potential destabilized systems and have been doing so for some time now.
As JamJul suggests, when this event becomes available, i expect there to be practically a whole new galaxy springing into existence, depending on what the causes are to effect a nova or a stellar death.
As a pre-runner to this event, i would love to be able to mouse-over a stellar mass to give us information on what type of star is in the system. So far we can see that they are single systems, or binaries etc but not the class of those stars. (ok we can see the colour and size. big and red, red giant, small and white...dwarf? etc but there are many more that could be a few different classifications that would need clarifying to give us an idea on system potential for nova or dwarfing)
