There should be an option to combine optimizations on ships. So as long as you do not exceed a Mk X optimized ship you can mix and match OPs to really customize your ship and make builds much more interesting 1 for example; you could do like, a Mk V shields op, Mk IV weapons op, and a Mk I freighter op in the same ship if you want. As long as it does not go over 10 levels

I can see it now...

...just like Starbuck's...

...I'd like a quarter factory with a quarter freighter and a splash or two of reinforced hull...

...or a triple armor/shield/weapon enhancement with a splash of reinforced hull...
