welcome to the game and please, do not hesitate with any questions you may have.
My first piece of advice is Finish the Academy. You are probably going to get a lot of recruitment offers, just be careful what you decide. Most of the top corporations would be happy to have you (and will be able to help you).

You go to Comms->Corp->Top Corps, click on Join Request immediately to the left of "SSS (S.S. Syndicate)". Can't miss it, it's the top corp and the place to be.  Please do tell Raptor sent you  |
